What Cloudflare launched

Dynamic Workers enable developers to execute AI-generated JavaScript or TypeScript code in secure, lightweight V8 isolates that spin up in milliseconds. Unlike container-based alternatives from E2B (Firecracker microVMs) and Modal (gVisor), which typically require 200-300 milliseconds to boot and consume hundreds of megabytes of memory, Dynamic Workers start nearly 100 times faster while using only a few megabytes per instance.

The service enters open beta for paid Workers users, with pricing set at $0.002 per unique worker per day—though this fee is waived during the beta period. Critically, Cloudflare imposes no concurrent sandbox limits, a constraint that plagues competitors who cap global concurrent executions and session durations (E2B, for example, limits sessions to 24 hours).

The technical shift

The architecture leverages Cap’n Web RPC for secure communication between the agent sandbox and host APIs, allowing developers to expose TypeScript interfaces rather than verbose OpenAPI specifications. This approach reduces token usage by over 80% when agents interact with tools, as demonstrated by Cloudflare’s own MCP server that exposes the entire Cloudflare API through just two tools.

Security remains a focal point: Cloudflare has hardened its isolate-based platform with a custom second-layer sandbox, MPK hardware features, and automated V8 patching within hours of disclosure—defense measures built over nearly a decade of production experience.

Why this matters now

Early adopters like Zite are already leveraging Dynamic Workers to build LLM-generated applications without users ever seeing source code, handling millions of execution requests daily.

For developers and growing SMBs, the choice between container-based solutions (E2B, Modal) and Cloudflare’s isolate approach increasingly depends on scale requirements. While containers offer broader language support and 24-hour persistence, Dynamic Workers provide the cost-efficiency and speed necessary for high-frequency, short-lived agent tasks. Many organizations are expected to adopt hybrid approaches—using containers for long-running agents and isolates for rapid, code-mode executions—or partner with specialists to integrate these capabilities across their automation stacks, including platforms like n8n that abstract away the underlying infrastructure complexity.
